Scouts
DISCOVER YOUR SPIRIT
Presently the Troop is strong with a fully functional Committee and strong parent support. The Troop currently has many Warranted Scouters and also Uniformed Adult Helpers.
Pack and Troop meetings are well supported. The Group has more than 30 invested Scouts and more than 25 invested Cubs.
Our Meerkat den has about 15 Meerkats. The strength of the Meerkat and Cub pack has helped to grow the numbers in the Troop, with all Meerkats going up to Cubs and then the Cubs going up to Scouts staying in the Troop.
There were more than 90 members at the 2024 census...
Apart from a fair stock of pioneering and camping equipment the Group has a well stocked boat shed consisting of various indian canoes, flat water and white water canoes, hydrabats for canoe polo, 3 plastic moulded Whaler Dinghies, several Mirrors and Dabchicks, Two Lasers, Many Gypseys, a Fireball, and Three Gigs. The Group also has a good stock of paddles, life jackets and canoe helmets.
Why Join the
SEA SCOUTS
The 1st Benoni Sea Scout Group is a mixed Meerkats, Cubs, Scouts & Rover Group for Boys and Girls who enjoy regular Scouting activities as well as Water activities.
Scouting is more relevant now than ever. In an age where parents are wary about letting their children out on their own, and young people are staying home spending hours in front of the TV, on computer games or online. Scouting has the alternative.
At 1st Benoni Sea Scout Group we do some pretty amazing and fun things in Scouting, but for us, this is a way of life and not just an expedition. Our Scouts grow in confidence by trying out new skills and stretching themselves. When a young scout has just finished their first Gig Adventure or played their first game of Canoe Polo – THAT’S ADVENTURE!
At 1st Benoni Sea Scout Group you will find a team of friendly, dedicated and motivated leaders.

BECOME A PART OF 1ST BENONI SCOUTING
It’s great that you have shown an interest in Scouting and that you are considering joining our world-wide Movement. There’s an exciting program lined up in the years ahead, with plenty of outdoor adventure on offer. Activities such as hiking, camping, pioneering, rowing, sailing and paddling will all provide fun with good friends in a healthy and stimulating environment.
There’s plenty of fun in store for you too, and we urge you to play an active role. To introduce you to this great Scout family of ours, we would like to tell you something about our Movement.
You will be following over 250 million others who have been Scouts since Robert Baden-Powell started the Scout Movement in 1907. Today there are more than 16 million members in over 150 countries and territories. About 60 000 are members of the Scouts South African (SSA). As parents of a Scout, you too will be drawn into the action.
So let’s tell you what it’s all about:
As a member of 1st Benoni, you will be expected to be dressed in Scout uniform for the opening of every meeting. The Meerkat uniform is our Camp uniform T-Shirt and Meerkat hat. The Cub and Scout uniform is a white short-sleeve shirt, navy blue long pants, navy blue narrow webbing belt with Scout buckle, black shoes (school shoes). The Group Scarf and Woggle will be provided at the time of your investiture into the Group.
We also have a Tuckshop with Card Facilities. You can purchase affordable snacks and meals for your Family…
